Collaboration

Helping students achieve success requires a coordinated team effort. That’s why we take a collaborative approach, partnering with all the stakeholders in a student’s educational life – including family, community agencies and referring school districts.

At the heart of New England Academy’s approach is a multidimensional set of goals that encompass the four crucial players in each student’s academic and personal life.

For Students

  • Provide a challenging academic curriculum that prepares students for college.
  • Provide a therapeutic school environment that supports the student’s emotional needs so that their cognitive and academic talents can develop to their fullest potential.
  • Provide an educational environment that is nurturing and supportive of the student’s educational, social and emotional needs.
  • Help students gain the academic, social and emotional skills necessary to graduate high school and attend college.

For Parents

  • Work collaboratively with parents, supporting their goals and dreams for their child.
  • Assist parents throughout the college application process.
  • Work with parents in preparing students for life transitions.
  • Communicate, consult and collaborate with parents about their child’s strengths, weaknesses, struggles, and opportunities for future growth.

For the Community

  • Work and communicate collaboratively with community agencies (DMH, DSS) and providers (therapist, psychiatrist, hospitals) around the student’s academic, social and emotional needs.
  • Act as a resource to the community, community agencies and community providers on how to address the academic, social and emotional needs of students.
  • Work and communicate with the community on the academic and vocational needs of students with social and emotional disabilities.

For School Districts

  • Act as a resource to school districts for case consultation, in-district program consultation and staff training.
  • Communicate frequently with the referring school district about the student’s ongoing academic, social and emotional growth, development and needs.
